Sleeves serve a variety of purposes, from a low-cost alternative to Protectors to additional protection for the contents of boxes. Due to the lack of strict dimensional standards, most designs are unique to a specific console, and even to versions for specific regions (but not all; there are exceptions, such as N64 and SNES manuals).

The Sleeves have the same design but differ in size. They are made of 30-micron thick OPP foil, have welded sides, and an additional flap with an adhesive strip for closing.

Second, they are an option for those just starting out in protecting their collections. They can initially and affordably protect a larger number of games, then gradually transition to Protectors, which are a more aesthetic and durable standard among collectors. Sometimes, Protectors are chosen as a protection method for games that are not displayed, but are instead stored in boxes or other types of storage. They can also be effective in this case.

Nintendo Manual Protective Sleeves

Nintendo game manual Sleeves are designed for the most dedicated collectors. These Sleeves will protect manuals from dirt, abrasions, and accidental creases. This is especially important for older releases, such as those for the NES or SNES, where manuals were packed quite tightly into cardboard boxes. The selection of manuals is quite extensive because in many cases, Nintendo didn't follow any standards (though not always), and the dimensions of the manuals almost always differ. A good example are manuals for the Famicom, which aren't even available in other regions of the same console generation.

Nintendo game cartridge Sleeves serve two purposes. They can be a budget-friendly alternative to standard Protectors for those looking to save money. They're primarily used for cartridges only, without packaging. The second option provides additional protection for complete boxed games. Collectors often place the cartridge in such a bag before placing it in the box. This provides additional protection against abrasions or tearing labels, but more importantly, additional protection against moisture, which cartridges (especially the contacts) don't like.

The Sleeves are designed to have a slight gap for ease of use, but small enough not to interfere with insertion into the cardboard insert or die, which was most commonly used by Nintendo.
